It's about us, you and me. Together, we will explore, from the ancient time of Hippocrates to the present age, this ongoing saga of medical knowledge from twenty-six human maladies, A to Z, that I have witnessed, diagnosed or treated as a physician. As we embark on this intimate medical odyssey, the fragile but resilient human spirit is visibly exposed in the context of illness by the trials, tribulations and triumphs of my patients. Hopefully, this book will enlighten not only fledgling medical students, interns and residents of what the practice and art of medicine once was but sadly, what it is no longer, a personal doctor/patient relationship. For the general public, they may get a glimpse of themselves or of their loved ones in similar medical situations addressed in this book and, perhaps, they may come away with a deeper awareness that illness is not just experienced alone but shared as each one of us travels on our own individual medical journey in search of hope and healing.</p>
