Ashliman</b>, an emeritus professor at the University of Pittsburgh, taught folklore, mythology, German, and comparative literature at that institution for thirty-three years. He also served as guest professor at the University of Augsburg in Germany. He is the editor of the <i>Aesop's Fables</i> volume in the Barnes and Noble Classics series. His book-length publications include two volumes in the Folklore Handbooks series of Greenwood Press: <i>Folk and Fairy Tales</i> (2004) and <i>Fairy Lore </i>(2005).
