A colourful rhyming romp through a zoo not far from you!

"A zebra woke up with the sun shining bright, and oh my gosh did she see a sight. Her stripes had gone, they'd all disappeared, and even the giraffe thought it was weird."

Review Quotes

The zebra has lost her stripes! Can you help her and the other animals to find them?

In this sweetly illustrated book by Atticus Ryder, the author - who also happens to be the

illustrator - has put together a fun story of a zebra who seems to have lost her stripes! Packed full

of animal characters, the story is accessibly written in rhyme and there's plenty happening on

every page to keep most 5 - 7 year olds amused.

There are a number of elements to the story I particularly enjoyed which I would like to

comment on. Firstly, I liked how the author highlighted the rhyming words; I think this will help

the child (and the parent) to find the flow of the story. Secondly, the layout is fab, and the

colorful illustrations of all the different animals offer a child plenty to look at and want to discuss.

Thirdly, there's a fun mystery to the story - what happened to the zebra's stripes? I suspect this

will very much help to keep the young reader engaged to the very last page.

With the rhyming and the rhythm mostly spot on, and superbly supported by colorful drawings,

I'm happy to recommend this to any parent looking for a fun way of introducing animals to a

young child. I suspect a school library would also love to have it on a bookshelf.

Billy Bob Buttons

Winner of the UK People's Book Prize (children's category)

A Wishing Shelf Review
