Book Synopsis

Doña Rosita, la soltera is a comedy by Federico García Lorca, set in Granada and released in December 1935 in Barcelona. In an interview Lorca relates: "My friend Moreno Villa told me one day, 'I'll tell you the beautiful story of the life of a flower. Taken from an 18th century book of roses, there was once a rose' And when she had the wonderful story of the rose I had made my comedy. it appeared to me complete, unique, impossible to reform." The most prominent character in this piece is a Granada spinster who, before her life is over, still hopes to someday return to her beloved. An ironic and humorous start gives way to a bitter story in which she is slowly consumed in a fruitless wait.
