About the Book

Welcome back to the Netherworld. Spirits of Jerome introduced you to the supernatural world of Arizona. Ghost Songs takes you back, this time with 16 stories 100% inspired by local, Arizona, independent music.

Book Synopsis

Ghost Songs is a book of 16 original stories that have inspired by the music of local musicians. A line, or an image, would strike me, and I would think, "Yes, but Twilight Zone... or X-Files". And Ghost Songs was born. The stories are woven together with small bits of current events and news. For instance, it really is possible to get your cremated ashes placed in a vinyl record, and the Hacienda Rape Victim, really gave birth to a baby nobody knew about. And children really are in cages. The stories are loosely interconnected, and return you to the same Netherworld, the same afterlife, as was first described in Spirits of Jerome: my first book of Specualtive stories.

Review Quotes

With Ghost Songs I find a rare opportunity at a glimpse into the inspiration and therefore the mind of the source of the work, which is exciting. The stories are transportive and one can easily imagine the period of these occurrences, all happening in familiar but somehow strange places. I found it best to listen to the song by the band mentioned at the beginning of each story while reading the chapter to really get the full experience. Ryan B. Clark proves that there are not only rock and roll musicians but rock and roll authors as well!

Kevin Michael Prier

Lead Singer of The Real Fakes & Chalmer's Green

Ryan B. Clark's enthusiasm for the Phoenix music scene cannot be topped. Proof is in this book, inspired entirely by local music. He's a listener, and takes each story in a direction I don't think even the musicians intended. That's what makes Ghost Songs so deliciously intriguing.

Dani Cutler

DJ Extraordinaire and Manager KWSS 93.9 FM

The Oxford defines the word evocation as:

The act of bringing or recalling a feeling, memory, or image to the conscious mind.

The action of invoking a spirit or deity.

The proficiency with which Clark wields this double edged sword in Ghost Songs is truly inspiring. His ability to conjure worlds and so clearly delineate the theater he creates sets him apart as a storyteller. Ghost Songs is an entertaining traverse from the conventional. Clark succeeds in describing the indescribable and taking the reader on a journey only the imagination can follow. Ryan B. Clark is definitely an author to watch!

Ivan Denis

Tucson, AZ Singer/ Songwriter
