(Some say his distant grandfather was a famous knight who lived in a huge castle in Scotland, and that his English great-grandfather discovered Charlie Chaplin.) At the age of six, he learned how to write. He bought himself a notebook, made up stories and went on many exciting adventures with pirates, knights, and astronauts. Since then, Jozua has never stopped writing. There is nothing he enjoys more than writing for children. Jozua: 'Children are open-minded and have lots of imagination. Their world is magical and mysterious. It's a big challenge to work in this world. Now, Jozua Douglas lives and works in Den Dolder, as an independent writer.
I am Barbara van Rheenen was born in Amsterdam on February 14th, 1967. I was raised in a big family where music and art were always present. Soon drawing became my favorite hobby. At school, I had a hard time concentrating and they called me the dream queen so after school I quickly got a job. I love to travel and I love the sea and especially everything that lives in the sea. I worked for four years for Greenpeace and fell in love with whales. At that time I made my first two books with Clavis. I made an educational book about whales and illustrated a book about dinosaurs. In my life there are no straight lines and that you can also see in my drawings. I like to work with a pencil, a lot of colors on top of each other. Then there is a world that exists on its own on the paper. When I'm not illustrating I'm working in the shipping and boat industry, the world of the water.
