From the Black Panther Design Lab, the Mapex Maximus has the sound and feel of a vintage drum played by the jazz greats, built with modern precision and articulation. Made from a 6” deep, 100% mahogany shell, the Maximus is outfitted with a special snare bed for the execution of the most dynamic playing. It's the choice for a warm, big sound, with the ability to whisper in the most delicate small group settings. In keeping with the throwback vibe, the drum comes with a Remo Fiberskyn Diplomat batter head and Hazy snare side head. Tradition meets a modern voice—the Maximus is a commanding instrument for all forms of playing. This drum is fitted with Mapex's proprietary Sonic Saver hoops, a middle ground between triple-flange and die-cast. They’re made from steel that’s folded inward for a round shape instead of a flat flange. Sonic Savers control the tone for a drier sound than triple-flange, but they don’t deaden the drum the way die-cast hoops can. They also reduce wear on the drum and sticks. The result is a focused snare with clean, punchy rim shots every time.
