Born in Vietnam in 1926, he became a Zen Buddhist monk at the age of sixteen. Exiled from Vietnam in 1966 for promoting peace, his teachings on Buddhism are responsible for bringing mindfulness to Western culture. He has published more than 100 books, which have sold more than four million copies in the United States. He established the international Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism in France, which is the heart of a growing community of practice centers around the world. He lives in Hue in Vietnam. <p/><b>Sister Annabel Laity (Sister Chân Đức)</b> has been a disciple of Thich Nhat Hanh since 1986 and was the first Western European person to be ordained by him in 1988. She is a much-loved senior Dharma teacher in the Plum Village tradition. Her autobiography <i>True Virtue: The Journey of an English Buddhist Nun</i> was published in 2019.
