The founder grew up on a coffee farm in Africa and she is passionate about the journey of coffee from seed to cup. In Africa, women provide over 90% of the labor in coffee. Inspired by the role of women in coffee, she founded Kahawa (coffee) 1893 with a mission to empower them and share their delicious coffee with the world.<br /><br /><br />Our coffee bags contain QR code where you can learn about the farmers and support them by tipping. Kahawa 1893 matches the tips to double the impact.<br /><br /><br />Kahawa means “coffee” in Swahili, which is the language spoken in Kenya.<br /><br /><br />The coffee is roasted in small batches in San Francisco, CA, for optimal flavor.
