Drawing on the latest scientific research, philosophy, and psychology as well as her own clinical experience, Maxine illuminates the life of the child. This book promotes the child as a soul - unified in body, mind, and spirit. Articulated through the Foundational Needs Model, the complex interplay of the emotional, mental, psychological, spiritual and physical dimensions are revealed. Travel on a philosophical journey to consider children in a new way. Be supported as an adult to consider your own unmet needs from childhood and see how these same needs influence your relationship with children now. By supporting children to stay connected from the very beginning of life we are laying the foundations for lifelong wellbeing and for a brighter future for our children

The book is divided into three parts. Part One, The Push for Unity, offers the philosophical and scientific support for the notion of the child as a soul. I offer research that shows how the child purposefully brings forth the personal and collective past, so we all (adult and child) may review any imbalance or fragmentation in order to secure whole and unified growth. The second part of the book examines each of the seven Foundational Needs within my Foundational Needs Model, showing the complex interplay of the body-mind-spirit composite. After each individual Foundational Need is considered in light of key themes and a case study, you will find tips as to how to encourage the cultivation of these needs. Part Three, Supporting the Soul, offers a way of being, or an approach to relating with children, that I call, Being in the Question. This approach outlines an affirmative relational skill for adults to use in their interaction with children. Supporting children to explore the questions they have is vital to their wellbeing, and keeps them connected, balanced and well. Effectively, this book supports adults to know more about their own unmet needs in a purposeful way, and how they surface in their relationships with children. This book not only deepens your own self-awareness it supports you to encourage your child's own self-awareness at the same time.

Review Quotes

"While becoming a mother has felt like a soul quest, few parenting books have spoken to the deep, transformational work we do as parents. Finally, Dr Maxine Therese has answered our call with The Push for a Child Philosophy. It's a rigorously researched, heart-expanding, paradigm-shifting book that I know I'll return to again and again. The paradox of this book is that it's equally challenging and comforting; it will challenge your intellect, ingrained assumptions and inherited beliefs, yet ultimately reassure you that each 'problem' we encounter is in fact a perfect opportunity for growth - your own, your child's and the consciousness of the planet. I hope this book finds its way into the hearts and homes of all those who wish to keep children whole, happy and connected." Kate Erlenbusch.

This is a many-layered piece of work. The pages tap into rich and deep veins of philosophy, spirituality, psychology, metaphysics, education, and other just as enlightening disciplines. Dr Therese has gathered gems from academia, polished them up, and melded these with her genuinely unique ideas on children and childhood philosophy to offer to us a bright, shiny, new jewel to marvel over. However, very soon you realise the granite of Maxine Therese's foundational work is not merely admirable words to live by, but seriously good, real-world advice from a practitioner who knows her stuff from daily work with children and families. Dr Therese's own Foundational Needs model is sensitively explained, and highlights the child as the keeper of great and innate wisdom, and encourages the adult to listen for critical cues that support healing and a way forward that is vast with possibilities. This book offers us a new way to communicate through troubled times and an exciting source of practical activities that are apt, fun and specific to the child's needs. This is a gorgeous new tool for learning. Cath Nitschke.

The Push for a Child Philosophy -What Children really need you to know by Dr Maxine Therese is a gift to our future generations of children. Held within the book are many reassuring messages of hope and support for parents, grandparents, carers of children and children. Dr Maxine's inspirational work heralds a dynamic shift in the perception of children's needs and gives the child a voice. The book clearly announces her dedication and devotion to the ultimate wellbeing of all children. Julieanne Higgins.

What is amazing about this book is that it not only takes you on a journey of discovery about your children and what they really need but it also takes you to a place deep inside of you to heal your own wounds and unmet needs. I know it's a big call, but this book has changed my life. It has made my relationship with my daughters stronger and more connected, it has made me a better parent and partner and it has made me deal with my own wounds that quite frankly, I thought were un-resolvable. This book will transform your family. Melissa Watkins.

This book is rich in knowledge and sparked many emotions and thoughts in me. I found myself re reading many pages as I could see myself and my children in so much of the content. Such an enlightening change of direction when it comes to parenting and a gift to me as both a mother and a person. Tracey Blundy.
