Book Synopsis

Before the end of my second year of teaching high school math, a student's sudden suicide rocked my worldview, forcing me to reconcile the differences between simply being an educator and being a Christian educator. I discovered that no matter the educational setting, my life as a Christian and my life as a teacher are inextricably intertwined. I began focusing on my walk with God in ways that I had not in my first year of teaching.

Love Teaching is about my twenty-five-year journey as an educator and how 1 Corinthians 13:1-8 shapes my interactions with parents, colleagues, and students. As our society copes with a global pandemic, we are more isolated than ever before in America. These critical times are draining more than our finances. The tolls on our psyches, energies, and ability to give of ourselves as educators are immense. We are purveyors of knowledge, but how can we gain stamina, and who is our compass? The obvious answer is Jesus, but how do we as educators gather strength from Him? Whether we consider teaching to be just a job or our calling, to truly Love Teaching, we must accept that it is so much more.
