At the age of sixteen, Pachter wrote his first short story, which was featured in <i>Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine</i> in 1968. Since then, he has published over one hundred works of crime fiction. He has also edited and coedited over a dozen anthologies, including <i>The Misadventures of Ellery Queen</i> and <i>Amsterdam Noir</i>. Pachter lives in Virginia with his wife, Laurie, and is a professor of communication studies and theater at Northern Virginia Community College's Loudon Campus. <br>
