Book Synopsis

Sergeant Dave Van Norman served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from 1947 to 1964. His 17-year RCMP career was defined by his love of Canada's north and his respect for the Inuit he met and worked with during his service. Sergeant Van Norman's career was cut short when it was discovered that he was gay, and he was forced to resign in 1964, as part of what is now known as the LGBT Purge. Fifty-five years later, his niece pays tribute to him by publishing a photo journal he made during his time as a young police officer in Pond Inlet, Nunavut. Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated towards community projects in the Qikiqtaaluk region to be determined by the Inuit who live there. Available in English and Inuktitut.
