Lang was formally educated at the University of St. Andrews as well as Balliol College, Oxford. After becoming a fellow at Merton College, he released a series of acclaimed articles through various publications. He also contributed poetry and a vast collection of popular fairy tales. Some of his most notable works include <i>The Gold of Fairnilee</i> (1888), <i>Prince Prigio</i> (1889) and <i>The Blue Fairy Book</i> (1889).</p>
