He is the author of numerous books including <em>Urban Sprawl, Global Warming, and the Empire of Capital</em> (2009), <em>Energy and Empire: The Politics of Nuclear and Solar Power in the United States</em> (2012), and <em>Energy and the Politics of the North Atlantic</em> (2013). He is co-editor of <em>Flashpoints in Environmental Policymaking</em> (1997), which won the 1998 Lynton Caldwell Book Award, given by the Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy section of the American Political Science Association. Professor Gonzalez's work in the field of Star Trek Studies has been published in <em>Foundation: The International Review of Science Fiction</em>.
