J. Hoxie</b> was born in Rochester, New York, in 1848. In 1912, he became instrumental in the organization of the Girl Scouts with founder Juliette Low. Throughout his career, he served as a teacher, a surveyor, the proprietor of a taxidermy shop, a writer, and much more. He died in 1934 in Saint Petersburg, Florida, at age 86.
