These stories are filled with the familiar style, brilliance, philosophy, and wit that fans of William Gass have come to expect and cherish.

Review Quotes

Four virtuoso performances, playfully juggling exuberant prose with sly postmodern speculations on the nature of desire, fiction, and the soul.' -Kirkus Reviews

"All in all, Gass is in peak form in this heady and provocative volume."

"Gass serves up an enticing mix of high-flown lyricism, sketchy narrative and momentary brillance in his playful latest fiction....Gass is an engrossing character-portraitist."

"In Cartesian Sonata, Gass once again proves he is one of the few American writers who pens sentences readers can dance in." -- Bill Marx

"Invigorating and extremely intelligent."

"The finest prose stylist in America." -- Steven Moore

About the Author

William Howard Gass (born July 30, 1924) is an American novelist, short story writer, essayist, critic, and former philosophy professor.
