Each volume is self-contained and can be used independently. This volume catalogs the languages of the Americas and the Pacific. It includes: </p> <ul> <li>2,643 language descriptions organized by continent and country</li> <li>16,278 primary names, alternate names, and dialect names</li> <li>81 country overviews with graphical language vitality profiles</li> <li>75 color maps showing location and distribution of languages</li> </ul> <p>The individual pictured on the front is a Brazilian man; image by by Elyse Patten. The fabric is from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific. The glyph on the front cover is the lowercase Latin "a" with ogonek used in Choctaw, a native American language, in SIL's Andika font. The glyph on the back cover is the lowercase Latin letter "l" used in many Aboriginal languages of Australia, in the Charis SIL font.</p>
