She is the author of three highly acclaimed works of nonfiction, <i>Lost in Translation, Exit into History</i>, and <i>Shtetl</i>, and one novel, <i>The Secret</i>. She divides her time between London and Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she is a visiting professor at MIT.
