Together, in 1961, they published three of Picasso's sketchbooks devoted to the sport with a text by contributed by Dominguin. Picasso designed the cover art and title pages, and supervised production. The original edition, published by Abrams, has been out of print for many years, and is republished now in a glorious slip-cased edition, printed in nine-colors. A recognized art critic and historian, Georges Boudaille (1925-1991) contributed an essay to the book, which is also included here. He highlights the remarkable writing of celebrated toreador Luis-Miguel Dominguin, who describes his art with nuance as well as the role of bullfighting in the Spanish national imaginary, and his deep friendship with Picasso that lies at the origin of this volume.
