The journal's users can savor its prompts, returning to them from time to time making the entries long and rich, a full reflection of themselves.

The inspiring quotes come from a surprising range of sources, from well-known historical figures in Islam to a two-time Super Bowl champion. The journal includes both lightly lined pages and several unlined pages for doodling or bullet journaling, as well as a few coloring projects for your relaxing enjoyment.

Originally these prompts were crafted for the adventurous, fitra-healing sisters who join Khalida Haque and Brooke Benoit at The Big Reconnect Sleepover, a retreat in Morocco exclusively for Muslim women. Stori Dori appreciated the work enough that they have chosen to release the journal as part of their Collaborative Signature Collections. The Big Reconnecting Selflove Journal is also available to purchase as a dori journal insert at storidori.co.uk.

Review Quotes

"I was gifted this journal for self-reflection. It should be noted it is Muslim-centric, but not exclusively so and could absolutely be used by non-Muslims as well. I would also characterize it as being developed by and for women, but it is not exclusive in that regard either and any gender could employ and enjoy this journaling process. The book is a thin paperback and really a perfect size. It's not so small that it's difficult to write in; it is a great size to carry in your purse or bag, or even to slip into your laptop case. The compact size also means you don't feel overwhelmed by the "task" ahead; indeed, it doesn't feel like a task at all as some journals can. What I love the most is the illustrations, printed in black so you can color at will. It is nice to see a journal that combines the adult coloring book trend with "serious" journaling, as it affords the mind a variety of ways to interact with and think through the exercises. Some of the writing exercises include: "Craft your ideal definitions of freedom, love, and happiness," "List: Everything I want to say no to," and "Imagine that you are fully fearless. What things might you do?" The list exercises include two blank white pages and two lined pages, and the "Love" prompts offer four lined pages. After the final exercise there are about 25 pages of blank lined writing pages, so you have space if any of the exercises requires an extra page or two..."

Aaminah Shakur, poet, artist, and art historian
