Although Phryne and members of her household are in danger from anarchists, they manage to foil a bank robbery while also solving the case of a missing young girl.

Book Synopsis

Driving home late one night, Phryne Fisher is surprised when someone shoots out her windscreen. She alights to finds a pretty young man with an anarchist tattoo dying on the tarmac just outside the dock gates. He bleeds to death in her arms...and all over her silk shirt.

Enraged by the loss of the clothing, the damage to her car, and this senseless waste of human life, Phryne promises to find out who is responsible. But she doesn't yet know how deeply into the mire she'll have to go: bank robbery, tattoo parlours, pubs, spiritualist halls, and Anarchists. Then when someone kidnaps her cherished companion, Dot, Phryne will stop at nothing to retrieve her.

Review Quotes

"I do recommend this book for those that especially like a good who-dunnit mystery in the likes of Miss Marple, Sherlock, Jessica in Murder She Wrote. Phryne has a lot of class and guts. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty, but she does like the good things in life. She keeps those she cares about close."--Debbie Bradley "NetGalley "

"I love this series by Kerry Greenwood. Death at Victoria Dock is just as good as her previous books. Phyrne Fisher is an independent woman who does as she pleases. She puts herself in dangerous situations but comes out OK. The cast of minor characters adore her and just add to the story."--Jennifer Coleman "NetGalley "

"Number four in the series does not disappoint! This is a delightful series. An enduring heroine."--Karen Kenyon "NetGalley "

"The fabulous Phryne Fisher returns in the fourth installment of Kerry Greenwood's delightful series, and she remains as clever, just, and chic as ever. Every Phryne Fisher novel is a gem. Highly, highly, highly recommended."--Ivonne Rovira "Goodreads "

"This book is absolutely packed with action! Sometimes the Miss Fisher series can meander a bit, but this book really packs it all in. It's quite exciting, but of course you still get Phryne's gorgeous clothes, incredible food & drink, and a lover or two."--Sarah Duff "NetGalley "

About the Author

Kerry Greenwood was born in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray and after wandering far and wide, she returned to live there. She has degrees in English and Law from Melbourne University and was admitted to the legal profession on the 1st April 1982, a day which she finds both soothing and significant. Kerry has written three series, a number of plays, including The Troubadours with Stephen D'Arcy, is an award-winning children's writer and has edited and contributed to several anthologies. The Phryne Fisher series (pronounced Fry-knee, to rhyme with briny) began in 1989 with Cocaine Blues which was a great success. Kerry has written twenty books in this series with no sign yet of Miss Fisher hanging up her pearl-handled pistol. Kerry says that as long as people want to read them, she can keep writing them. In 2003 Kerry won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Association.
