He has degrees from Missouri State University and Idaho State University and has always been involved in environmental protection organizations. In addition to hiking and traveling, he enjoys writing, recording, and performing music on piano and guitar. He currently lives near the Idaho border in Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming, where he has been teaching music for Lincoln County School District for the last eight years.
