Book Synopsis

The Moon Belongs to Everyone is a 'meditation on the contemporary experience of migration, of shifting continents, and fractured mindsets.' Mehrfar's work acts as an allegory for an increasingly ubiquitous, non-specific, global identity; an unidentifiable position she found herself in after immigrating to Australia. 'The Moon Belongs to Everyone attempts to visualize these contemporary global citizens-- individuals whose identities are no longer defined by national borders, but rather by the experience of migration. The subjects included in the project hail from different parts of the world. They don't know one another, nor do they share the same heritage. But they have all found themselves caught in a similar liminal space -- hovering somewhere between there and here.'

About the Author

Born in New York, Stacy Arezou Mehrfar resided in Sydney, Australia from 2008-2016, and completed an MFA (Research) at the University of New South Wales, Art & Design, and was a lecturer in photo-media at several arts colleges. Her first book, Tall Poppy Syndrome, a collaborative work with Amy Stein, was published in 2012. In 2018, Mehrfar completed a stop motion video piece, A Collective Performance, as a commission for TEDxSydney. Her photographs and video installations have been exhibited internationally.
