An early film by cult director Kinji Fukasaku (BATTLE ROYALE, THE YAKUZA PAPERS), STREET MOBSTER in many ways scripts the blueprint for Fukasaku's later films chronicling real-life accounts of the Japanese yakuza. Centered around street punk Isamu Okita (Bunta Sugawara) as he re-enters the criminal underworld after his release from prison, this 1970s classic fashions the yakuza tropes of an icy-cool antihero, bloody action sequences, and an atmosphere of extreme nihilism into a fascinating condemnation of a spiritually empty subculture.
