Nina's research focused on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and related viruses and their interaction with the immune system. Nina also taught science to schoolchildren of different ages and abilities in New Mexico and volunteered at a hospital-based Cancer Information Centre in England. She worked in the field of evidence-based medicine and contributed to the Cochrane Library (a medical database).
