As adapted from a series of popular novels by Ann Cleeves, the title character of the British mystery series Vera is Vera Stanhope (Oscar nominee Brenda Blethyn), an introverted, caustic detective whose dishevelled appearance masks obsessive focus and a razor sharp mind. Based in Northumberland, England, she manages to crack numerous cases that have completely eluded the authorities. This box set contains four feature-length VERA episodes, as originally broadcast on English television. THE GHOST POSITION has Vera investigating a firebombing following tragic events in the life of her former mentor; SILENT VOICES finds Vera researching the connection between a social worker's murder and a child's drowning; SANDANCERS concerns the mysterious death of an Afghani War veteran; and A CERTAIN SAMARITAN finds Vera digging into the past of a young man found dead with heroin in his body and a stolen credit card.
