They wrote and shared stories from a young age, and in 1847, Charlotte's <i>Jane Eyre </i>and Emily's <i>Wuthering Heights</i> were both published. All three also worked as governesses and teachers, experiences that inspired Anne's <i>The Tenant of Wildfell Hall</i> (1848) and Charlotte's <i>Villette</i> (1853). They died in their twenties and thirties, leaving their father the only surviving family member. <p/> <b>Coralie Bickford-Smith</b> (cover design) is an award-winning designer at Penguin Books (U.K.), where she has created several highly acclaimed series designs.
