She launched her writing career with the publication of <i>The Moffats.</i> Her books <i>Rufus M., The Middle Moffat, </i>and <i>The Hundred Dresses </i>were awarded Newbery Honors. She won the Newbery Medal for <i>Ginger Pye. </i>
