His sofas, benches and shelving units are largely unadorned and instead focused on the formal geometry of the pieces with the occasional bright accent color, clearly evoking the Minimalist and Conceptualist practices of the artists with whom Schellmann has worked. He also draws inspiration from trends in industrial design, employing material such as tubular steel, perforated aluminum and exposed metal bolts. The beauty of Schellmann's furniture is in its utility.
