Mrs. Spencer sought to put Christ's name on the tree in a manor more fitting a church at Christmas. She based her designs on ancient monograms of Christ including Greek symbol abbreviations and crosses. She choose the White and Gold liturgical colors to display Christ's purity and God's majesty. The background of the evergreen tree symbolizes the eternal life our Savior won for us. The white lights of the tree proclaim Christ's role as the Light of the world. Only the patterns are sold to support the non-profit seeking to keep the idea from becoming a commercial adventure and lessening the impact of this gift to all Christians of any denomination. A Chrismons tree has been featured at the Smithsonian Institute and Ascension Lutheran still erects a 20 - 24' tree open to visitors every December.
