Oma always shows Kate something new. This time it was the frogs and the crab that came up from the pond. But this summer was different. Over the winter Oma had passed away. It is now strange at the summer house without Oma. Kate is fearful of losing her favorite tiny Froggy, all of the other frogs that live in the pond, and her loyal cat Meowzer. Grandmummer reassures Kate that these are just dreams. But then a fearful Crab appears in her dream. Kate is scared thinking Crab is coming for her and that she will be gone, just like Oma. Grandmummer continues to reassure Kate: "Sometimes dreams show us what we don't want to happen." Kate resolves her fears as she realizes that feeling sad when she thinks of Great Grandmummer Oma, is part of loving her. "Even though Oma is no longer here, she will always be with me, as I remember her."

Review Quotes

"Kate's Dream is one of the most beautiful and moving children's books I've read in the last decade.
