He was a journeyman comics scripter from the 1940s through the 1960s, began working on <i>Little Lulu</i> in 1945 and wrote his final issue in 1959, just after beginning to work on Ernie Bushmiller's <i>Nancy</i>. Stanley is considered by many comics historians to be the most consistently funny and idiosyncratic writer to ever work in the medium.
