Book Synopsis

My book, Living A Dream, has been described in several different ways: an autobiography, a family history, a fathers memories, or a colorful reflection of a man and his life.

I have tried to tell my story as I traveled through a difficult childhood, my escape from the family disease of alcoholism, and the beginning of a new life for me and my loved ones. For most of us, our lives reflect the many and varied aspects of the human experiencelaughter and tears, joy and sorrow. We are sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, loving companions. But inevitably, we are but a memory in the minds of those whom we have loved.

I believe that humor heals the soul and is of Gods grace. I endeavor to introduce humor into a variety of personal experiences. There are, of course, painful memories in which only sorrow and tears can be found. Hopefully, in time, a new perception and awareness will bring a peaceful acceptance to replace the pain.

The theme of Living a Dream, if there is one, is not just humor but of a mans journey through life, as I transition from darkness to the bright light of day. I believe that within the pages of this narrative, the essence will hopefully become apparentquite simply, learning to love openly and honestly.

Some of my friends who have read my book have shared their thoughts and comments with me:

Mary Olson wrote, Gene, thank you for the privilege of reading your autobiography. Thought it was wonderful the way you told your life experiences. I wouldnt change a thing. I enjoyed your humor and the fun times with your family. Never having gone hunting or fishing, I learned a lot and was so interested in all the details, and I know that whoever reads your book will too.

Ron Roberts wrote, I really enjoyed reading your book, fell out of my chair laughing a couple of times. My friend the general loved it. Not bad for an ex-smokejumper.

Kolton Simmons, age twelve: He didnt need to say anything; his giggles and laughter said it all.

Greg Tarr, College professor: This book is wonderful, well written and very enjoyable.

George Bombel, General US Army retired: I really enjoyed the book. I got started and couldnt put it down.
