<p/><br></br><p><b> Book Synopsis </b></p></br></br><p>This pamphlet is for anyone alarmed by the present British government. </p><p>It argues that the component nations of the United Kingdom can become true democracies only by declaring themselves republics. </p><p>The authors are Alasdair Gray, writer of fiction and pamphlets such as <i>Why Scots Should Rule Scotland</i>, and Adam Tomkins, Professor of Public Law in the University of Glasgow and author of <i>Public Law and Our Republican Constitution</i>. </p><p>Both are committed republicans.</p><p/><br></br><p><b> About the Author </b></p></br></br><p>Alasdair Gray is an old, asthmatic Glaswegian who lives by painting, writing and book design. He is currently working on a book about his visual art, <i>A Life in Pictures</i>, copiously illustrated, to be published by Canongate in 2008.</p><p>Adam Tomkins is Professor of Public Law at the University of Glasgow, and English author of <i>Public Law</i> (2003) and <i>Our Republican Constitution</i> (2005).</p>
