Oscar-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone examines the world events that led us to where we are today in this three-part documentary series. In "Chapter 1: WWII," Stone uses the stories of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin as a launching point to probe the rise of the American Empire, and the crucial turning points during the Second World War to highlight the heroes whose names have been omitted from the history books. "Chapter 2: Roosevelt, Truman, and Wallace" reveals how Harry Truman's unlikely ascent to the Vice Presidency under Roosevelt ushered in a new era of empire-building in U.S. politics, explores the chilling of relations between the U.S. and the Soviet Union that led to the Cold War, and examines the divisive effects of the Yalta conference in Europe. In "Chapter 3: The Bomb," a closer study of the United State's use of the atom bomb in Japan uncovers the consequences of this drastic action, as well as the effects of the sobering realization that mankind now had the ability to destroy all life on the planet.
