Klement </b>was a Professor of History at Marquette University, serving as the department chair from 1956-1958 and receiving the Award for Teaching Excellence in 1965. He also taught at Lake Forest College and Eau Clare State Teachers College. His scholarship was centered on the Civil War era, and he authored over fifty articles and book chapters, as well as dozens of book reviews. His best known publications include <i>The Copper-heads in the Midwest</i>, and <i>Dark Lanterns: Secret Political Societies, Conspiracies, and Treason Trials in the Civil War</i>.
