Created by expert Hydraulic Engineer and Water Resources/Environmental Engineering PE review course instructor Dr. Harry C. Friebel, this comprehensive dictionary guides you through the journey of studying for the PE examination - no more wondering or guessing what a particular term means. During the examination, this dictionary will supplement your understanding of the questions being asked (especially those qualitative questions) providing the necessary edge of getting additional problems correct, increasing your chances of passing the examination and maximizing your potential as a professional engineer.

Think you don't need a dictionary, think again!

This dictionary was written with the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Civil and Environmental examinations in mind. Typically, a PE examinee spends well over a thousand dollars on review books, courses and sample examinations. Many previous examinees believe they did not pass the examination the first time due to missing a single problem or two. What if one of those questions could have been answered correctly with a dictionary? Do you really want to chance not understanding what a word means in any of your examination questions? What is it worth to increase your chances of getting additional problems correct?

Think of this dictionary as insurance! Hopefully you won't need it, but what if you do? Be wary of anyone stating a dictionary is not necessary for the exam. If you don't think the good people of National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) that put the examination together are not aware of the exact terms defined (and NOT defined) in your review manual glossary, you're kidding yourself. I have received testimonial after testimonial from former students thanking me for recommending that they bring a dictionary to the exam. Don't believe me? Go on Amazon and read the reviews for yourself. Terms can (and do) appear on the examination that you may not be familiar with. What if they are not defined in your reference books, then what? Everyone's vocabulary is different and what's familiar to you, may not be familiar to the person sitting next to you and vice versa. This dictionary may very well be the difference in you passing your examination.

I wrote this dictionary with only one objective, to help you pass the PE Civil examination!

Review Quotes

This is an ABSOLUTE must! - If you are taking the PE Civil-Water Resources exam, you need this book! The people that make the test (evil NCEES) know what is in your Lindeburg book, so they aren't going to give you freebie questions directly from that resource. I got a few answers right out of this book for the October 2015 exam, none of those answers were in the Lindeburg nor the Goswami books....'' Amazon verified purchase by Predadactyl on December 13, 2015.

A MUST HAVE for the Civil PE Exam - This is a MUST HAVE for the Civil PE Exam. There are so many topics covered in the AM, breadth portion of the exam, that you are sure to come across some terms that you have not yet encountered or are not familiar with. Due to the specialized content, you are unlikely to find most of these terms in a standard dictionary. I tried a handful of other "Scientific" and "Engineering" dictionaries but this is hands down the best for the PE Exam. Amazon verified purchase by Dan B on March 6, 2015.

Very useful! - I used this book for the PE exam, and I am sure it helped me get 2-3 problems correct that I otherwise would have had to guess on. Very useful! Amazon verified purchase by Bb on December 16, 2014.

Great book for my engineering library - I bought the book to help me in defining terms that I was unfamiliar with while taking the PE exam. I used the book a few times during my exam and quite possibly helped in getting a few questions correct. This book is also a great addition to my engineering library at my office and would recommend it to any practicing water resource engineer. Amazon verified purchase by Kellen A. Lopes on May 27, 2014.

Great for the PE exam - I was skeptical when told to purchase this for studying the PE exam but have been pleasantly surprised with how handy it's come in already. It's a great reference and though I was originally planning to sell it back after my exam, I will keep it. I'm happy to have a quick reference at my desk for Civil Engineering. Amazon verified purchase by Chantal on October 31, 2013.

A must have when taking the PE exam - I took the PE exam for the first time last October, many years after graduation, and came up short. Fortunately, when I took the exam for the second time in April I purchased Dr. Friebel's Dictionary of Civil, Water Resources \& Environmental Engineering which proved to be extremely helpful, I passed! The dictionary provided quick access to at least 4 or 5 problems, both AM and PM variety. I strongly urge anyone taking the Water Resources depth exam to add this book to your arsenal. Ultimately, I passed using only the CERM, Metcalf \& Eddy, and Dr. Friebel's dictionary. Amazon verified purchase by PAL on June 11, 2013.

Great Resource - I had 2 dictionaries for the P.E. exam before learning of Dr. Friebel's WRE dictionary. Neither had much in the way of water resources or environmental. I purchased a copy here (fast service) after taking a class from Dr. Friebel on the hunch that if he put the same effort into the book I wouldn't be disappointed. A scan across all 3 quickly showed that it is very expansive regarding environmental terms and very different from the typical civil dictionary. I used it for a few practice exams but didn't need it for the April 13 Civil/Transportation exam. Lucky I guess. I do know some people who did use it for the exam and scored a few points they wouldn't have. I rank it between a must have and cheap insurance. You won't find a better WRE dictionary near this cost. Buy it for the exam and when you pass take it to work. Amazon verified purchase by New P.E. on June 2, 2013.
