She served on the original board for a Wilmington, NC Autism Parent Support group. She is dedicated to continued education and life skill development for her son Derek, with Autism, and grandson Michael, who is affected by cerebral palsy. </p> <p>Fluent in helping children and young adults with multiple abilities, Kathy and her husband William have supported and paved the path in the local special needs community starting in their own home. Together, they engraved in their children to care and advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves, who in turn share the same passion for serving the community.</p> <p>Knowing that God has entrusted and guided their family with such precious children in their lives to teach, encourage and support, Kathy continues to dedicate her time to making a difference for other families who also experience the challenges that surface when raising children with special needs.</p>
