Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma Valley Family owned since 1904. Planted back in 1961, the Cherryblock Vineyard produces an exceptional, terroir-based Cabernet Sauvignon. Its combination of volcanic, well drained soils, 40 + year old vines, and small, pea sized berries consistently produces intensely flavored, well structured wine. Adjacent blocks of Merlot and Malbee were planted in the 1990's to offer blending options. 2005 was extraordinary in both the abundance and quality of the fruit. Late spring rains and moderate summer temperatures were followed by an Indian summer that provided ideal ripening conditions. The Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) was carefully blended with 10% Merlot and 5% Malbec. Aging took place over 17 months in French Chateau barrels. This wine is enjoyable now, but will age and improve gracefully over the years. - Mary Ann Seabstiani Cuneo.
