She writes, paints, and whitebaits in Okarito, Westland. Hulme has written poems and short stories; <i>The Bone People</i>, originally published by Spiral, a New Zealand feminist collective, is her first novel. She has also written <i>Te Zaihau: The Windeater</i>.
