It depicts some of the midshipmen training of the author, and covers operations areas of the ship from the home base in Newport, R.I., the North Atlantic, the Naval training base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, in the Mediterranean and Red Sea with the Sixth Fleet, and to the Elbe River of North Germany.
