Subsequently diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), she is now a fierce advocate for those impacted by trauma and mental health challenges, especially in children. Julia has delivered a TEDx Talk about her life's experience which continues to be viewed around the world. She is also an award-winning journalist, former company spokesperson and gubernatorial appointee, as well as the first college graduate in her family. Her cultural connection to Puerto Rico makes her passionate about securing equal voting rights and representation for her fellow American citizens living on the island. Her recovery was hard fought and she is most grateful for her loving and loyal husband, sons and friends who believed her resilience and determination would be her saving grace once again.
