Book Synopsis

It is not necessary to use science and extreme methods to influence and control someone's life. Simply sowing the seeds at the right time will do that as demonstrated in this book. It tells the story of a little boy from a small village in Guyana, South America, who was brainwashed by his father from a young age, to become a Doctor. Unfortunately, his father died when he was a first-year Medical Student, and never saw this dream fulfilled. It describes how, despite many hurdles and sacrifices along the way, he finally achieved his ambition. It goes on to describe a varied and fulfilled life, first as a doctor in England, and later in outback Australia. The Author describes several experiences, and mentions some patients and medical encounters in a humorous way. It also gives some insight into the Aboriginal (Indigenous) culture in Australia.

About the Author

Ramdyal Bhola is a retired medical practitioner who graduated in 1971 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, with a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS). In addition to the MBBS degree, he acquired postgraduate qualifications in obstetrics and gynaecology (DObst.RCOG), general practice (MRCGP), and rural and remote medicine (FACRRM). He was born in Guyana, South America, where he attended primary and secondary schools before going to England for college and university education. He practised medicine for thirty-four years in rural Australia and ten years in the city of Adelaide. He was active in medical politics at a local level and provided medical education for medical students, trainees, and overseas-trained doctors. Practice management was his passion. This passion, combined with his commitment to patient care and community, culminated in a high-quality practice at Port Augusta Medical Centre. In recognition of this, the practice was used by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners to help set the Standards for Accreditation of General Practices.
