The American Paint Horse is a breed that combines both the conformational characteristics of a Western stock horse with a pinto spotting pattern of white and dark coat colors. Their coat is always a combination of white with an array of basic colors common to horses. Their markings often look like splashings of paint over the horse's body but actually fall into three color classifications—tobiano, overo, and tovero - a requirement in order to be considered a Paint Horse.
