It is grounded in, and integrates many profound insights from the scriptural sources of Kashmir Shaivism and other literature as well. It is well orgainzed, simple, yet very subtile. It is profoundly "orienting"; it turns the modern materialistic western mind-set on its head. It contains psychological insights that go beyond much of western psychology. This book is worthy of re-reading many many times. It is a meditation exercise in itself ...
This is a study guide for anyone interested in human transformation which has any foundation in Hinduism. If you are looking for ways in which to integrate insights gained in meditation into day to day activity and human relationships, if you are truly interested in "making your prakriti the Shakti of your purusha" (Aurobindo), YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! Lore. B

Swami Shankarananda's is a work of great illumination and inspiration I found, as well as being exceptionally scholarly where necessary. The impact of the book on me was positively remarkable. Reading it was like initiating a chemical reaction with my spiritual side! Hugh. A

As well as the scholarly depth of knowledge of Kashmir Shaivism, I really enjoyed the author's clear and gently humorous writing style and the practical meditation exercises interspersed throughout the book. I found myself thinking often about what I had read while I was going about my everyday life and wanting to know more. There is much wisdom here and because Swami Shankarananda is from the US, it is presented in a way that westerners can easily access, especially the original quotes from ancient Indian texts that are often incomprehensible to me. There is much here for the beginner and for the more experienced student and it will amply reward a thorough reader. Sand.
