Sewell's love of horses and concern for their humane treatment inspired the creation of her only book, <i> Black Beauty</i>, which has touched the hearts of generations of readers since its 1877 publication.<br>Cecil Aldin (1870-1935) is renowned for his paintings of animals and rural life as well as for his book and magazine illustrations of equestrian scenes. An avid sportsman and Master of Foxhounds, he served as a Remount Purchasing Officer during World War I and was active in training horses for army service.
