A scholar of concrete poetry, Bessa is the author of <i>Öyvind Fahlström--The Art of Writing</i>, co-editor of <i>Novas--Selected Writings of Haroldo de Campos</i>, and editor of <i>Mary Ellen Solt--Towards a Theory of Concrete Poetry</i> and <i>Paulo Bruscky: Poesia Viva</i>.
