Alabama prison trusties, baseball gloves, B-cowboy movies, sudden deaths, sexual abuse, Southern segregation, Northern ghettos, Big Apple drug programs, campus protests, unhinged lawmen, and a Southern biddy's voice are all encountered on the boy's grace-assisted path to forgiveness.</p>
